Writer/Director Martin Guigui first began working on "Sweetwater" in April of 1996 when he walked into the Basketball Hall Of Fame and found no information pertaining to the story behind the first African American to play in the NBA. At that time, Guigui was living in Burlington Vermont, making his living as a professional musician and had not yet directed his first film.
