The photographs were largely shot on 31 December 2003. At the stroke of midnight, The Bethlehem Steel Corporation ceased to exist. Photographer Marc Reed may have been the last person to set foot on the property while the corporation still existed.
BethWorks Now, an LLC formed by Sands of Las Vegas, plans to build a casino and entertainment complex where the ruins of Beth Steel now stands. They are waiting only for a slots license from the government of Pennsylvania.
Photographer Marc Reed originally took photos of the ruins of Bethlehem Steel as a basis for his oil painting but was so impressed with the outcome of the shoot that he created "Almost Gone," a traveling photography show. Richard Behrens of Garden Bay Films approached Marc with the idea of creating a short film showcasing the photos.
