- The Doctor's TARDIS is stolen, and tracking it down reveals the existence of an alien named Kalid controlling events in the past. While the Doctor challenges Kalid's motives for being there, Tegan and Nyssa discover the source of Kalid's power - an even greater threat for the Doctor.—chapman_glen@yahoo
- The Doctor is not actually abducted but entombed in a crystalline mass. Nyssa warns everyone to leave the object alone so the Doctor can work out the best way to escape. Suddenly the Doctors tomb evaporates and he appears unharmed, and explains the aliens they have been encountering are Plasmatons, random conglomerations of particles drawn together from the atmosphere and animated using mental energy.
The crew of the Concord and Doctor encounters professor Hayter, he explains he's from the other plane, and has been single handedly resisting the illusions, but still thinks they are in Siberia, captive of Russian forces.
Meanwhile, the passengers of the first flight finish moving the TARDIS to an underground cavern overseen by a humanoid alien.
Professor Hayter agrees to lead the Doctor to the cavern. Only to be observed by the alien. Suddenly Nyssa collapses and appears to be taken over by an alien entity that gives a dire warning before being encased in a mass similar to the previously trapped the Doctor
The Doctor manages to get inside the cavern and locate the TARDIS. Watching over the machine is the alien, who calls himself Karleed. The Doctor argues Karleeds motives in being 140 million years in Earths past. He tries to plead it is a random event until the Doctor reminds him he is sitting on a time contour like a spider in a web, and why he wants the TARDIS.
Karleed shows the Doctor a number of examples of his power, rather than be impressed the Doctor begins to realizes there is a larger power behind Karleed, possibly in competition
Nyssa is suddenly released and then explains to Teegan that the power to maintain it was needed elsewhere, suddenly Plasmatrons begin appearing throughout the caverns Teegan and Nyssa decide to explore the cavern and possibly find the center of the place where Nyssa thinks the power comes from. To stop them, Karleed creates a number of frightening apparitions including one of Aldrik imploring them to turn around. The girls eventually find their way to the center of the caverns, identify Karleeds power source and destroy it
The Doctor is stunned to see Karleed suddenly collapses and is rendered unconscious. Stunned he watches as the alien recovers only to identify himself as the Master.
