Although it was given the U rating in the UK, it was given the M rating in New Zealand, mostly due to the scene which Lytton has both his hands crushed by the Cybermen.
The Cryons were male in the original script but director Matthew Robinson suggested changing their gender, which producer John Nathan-Turner agreed to. Writer/script editor Eric Saward was unhappy with the change.
