• The film is based upon the real-life gun battle between gangsters and Mumbai Police, which occurred on November 16, 1991.
  
  
• Sanjay Dutt's character was based on the real life Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aftab Ahmed Khan Head of the ATS who was leading the gun battle with gangsters.
  
  
• 'Vivek Oberoi''s Character Maya was based on Mumbai Gangster 'Mahindra Dolas'.
  
  
• 'Amrita Singh' wasn't keen on playing Vivek Oberoi's mother role. Director 'Sanjay Gupta' had to personally convince her for her to be part of the film.
  
  
• Many scenes were shot on the actual locations at Lokhandwala Complex in Mumbai where the actual incident had happened.
  
  
• The chase sequence between 'Sunil Shetty' and 'Arbaaz Khan' through Lokhandwala was a difficult scene to shoot; with the public around. Hidden cameras were used at five places and the two actors ran 200 meters at the real location to can the scene.
  
  
• Actress Pooja Bedi was asked to shoot for the role of a film actress (playing herself). Pooja declined the role quoting "Apoorva did approach me and wanted me to play the part. But it's probably just a 10 second scene that didn't interest me". The role was finally played by 'Raki Sawant'. The makers were actually trying to add glamor to the film by showing that a film actress was shooting for a film nearby. whilst the actual fact was Pooja Bedi was actually shooting at Juhu and not Lokhandwala. A reporter 'Minty Tejpal' had come to interview her. When Minty was informed that a shootout was happening at Lokhandwala, he went straight off to the site of the shootout and abandoned the interview.
  
  
• In an interview 'Amrita Singh' said that "Maya's mother encouraged him to become a gangster". This upset the real life mother of Gangster Mahindra Dolas who sent a legal notice to Producer 'Sanjay Gupta'. The director confirmed that Mahindra's mother has sent them a legal notice over Amrita Singh's comments and that his legal department is looking into the issue. To cover the matter up the director also stated "the film is mainly based on real life incidents revolving around the shootout but at the same time, they have also built fictional situations".
  
  
• Amitabh Bachchan shocked the movie unit by recording 23 scenes in 5 hours. Achieving this feat was unheard of.
