This film takes place after Dead Man's Walk, but before the original Lonesome Dove.
Jack Caffrey played "Cholo" in both Lonesome Dove and Return to Lonesome Dove and he played the "Old Farmer in Comanche Moon.
In addition to the afforementioned Jack Caffrey, Ray McKinnon and Jonathan Joss once again play Long Bill Coleman and Kicking Wolf, their characters from Dead Man's Walk. All the other characters have been recast. Wes Studi appeared in Streets of Laredo as Famous Shoes, and plays Buffalo Hump in this film.
