Bounty Hunter Trailer Arrives

21 December 2009 11:22 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Ah, the high concept rom com: throwing attractive people together in wacky situations since the dawn of cinema itself (well, since the 30s at least). And now we have a trailer for the latest incarnation - The Bounty Hunter, starring Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston. How does it look? Much like Fool's Gold, or Hitch, two of director Andy Tenant's previous movies, and again finds two sexy actors bickering, scrapping and generally trying to prove they have chemistry together. On their own, Butler and Aniston have done some good work, but on the evidence of this trailer, we're not yet sure they work as a pair. Butler's contending with a slightly awkward American accent and Aniston appears to be falling back on her usual blend of nervy/cute tics. The basic premise of the promo - which snuck out over the weekend - finds Butler's dogged bounty hunter assigned »

Tommy Lee Jones Ditches Matthew McConaughey's 'Lincoln'

24 November 2009 4:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

A mere month ago, it seemed like Michael Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer was set for a top notch adaptation thanks to the arrival of Tommy Lee Jones. Jones was interested in directing and costarring in the film, which gave us all hope that he could help makeover Matthew McConaughey into something serious and shirt wearing. But alas, it's not to be. Variety reports that Jones has departed The Lincoln Lawyer, leaving it idling and spitting fumes.

Jones departed for that vague and all-encompassing reason "creative differences." Variety reports that he had issues with John Romano's script, and neither Jones nor Lakeshore Entertainment were willing to budge. The studio is currently on the hunt for a new director, and hopes to be shooting by spring.

So, feel free to speculate on just what script issues there might have been. I know we have some Connelly fans who were looking forward to this, »

Hudson Begs Kate To 'Come Home' And Meet Baby Sister

14 August 2009 6:26 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Kate Hudson's biological father has gone public with the fact the actress has a sister, who is two years younger than her son Ryder.

Musician Bill Hudson has been estranged from his famous daughter for years and he now reveals the Fool's Gold star has never met his three-year-old daughter Lalania - her half-sister.

Hudson claims the actress cut off all contact with him after he first told her that she had a baby sister, shortly after Lalania was born in 2006, and now he's desperate for his daughter with Goldie Hawn to get in touch.

The Hudson Brothers star has posed for pictures with his youngest daughter and poured his heart out in the new issue of Life & Style magazine.

He says, "Katie, I love you with all my heart, and I beg you to come home and meet your baby sister.

"There's only a two-year difference between Ryder and Lalania, and it saddens me that they haven't once played together." »

Yesterday came the yearly announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as it extended 134 invitations to several artists and executives "who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures" read the press release. Of course all of them can decline, but I wouldn't necessarily expect that to happen as all who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2009 to the Academy's roster of voting members. "These filmmakers have, over the course of their careers, captured the imagination of audiences around the world," said Academy President Sid Ganis. "It's this kind of talent and creativity that make up the Academy, and I welcome each of them to our ranks." The list follows below and reading around the best analysis I saw of it came from Nathaniel Rogers at The Film Experience who, among other things, pointed out the addition of longtime Darren Aronofsky's »

Not that kind of Bounty Hunter news you were expecting

SNL’s Jason Sudeikis Attempts Jump to Feature Films

16 June 2009 10:02 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The next in a long line of SNL cast members to try their hand at film, Jason Sudeikis is co-starring with Jennifer Aniston for the upcoming Bounty Hunter - which is either about someone who tracks down criminals or a stay-at-home mom who needs some sort of quilted quicker picker-upper. He'll stake his claim amongst the successes (John Belushi, Mike Meyers, Will Ferrell) and the failures (Chris Kattan, Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrll). Although it looks like the film will mostly be about Jennifer Aniston's and Gerard Butler's characters (one the hunted, the other the huntee), it sounds as if Sudeikis will play a decently-sized supporting role as a co-worker of Aniston's character who runs off after her when she runs off from Butler's character. This would all be simpler if I just said their character's names. Milo. Casidy. Stewart. Respectively. Now read the sentence again as Casidy, Milo, Stewart »

Kate Hudson Can Keep Her Rom-Com Card

Nicole Kassell made a bit of a splash in 2004 with The Woodsman, a film in which she directed Kevin Bacon to some acclaim, but since then she hasn't really done much outside of directing three television episodes. I am not sure what happened in the past five years, but it appears she is going to make her big comeback with a romantic comedy starring the rom-com veteran Kate Hudson. Hudson was beginning to look like she was done with rom-coms with her inclusion in Rob Marshall's Nine and production underway on Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me, but there must be something inside Hudson that draws her back to the inane. Screen Daily reports the new film is titled Earthbound and was written by Gren Wells, whose only writing credit on IMDb is as an uncredited writer on the 2001 MTV Movie Awards.
