Final appearance of both Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers on the show, although they will appear on an hour-long first season episode of Archie Bunker's Place. Struthers starred in her own spin-off, "Gloria", which ran concurrently with the final season of Archie Bunker's Place (followed by both series being cancelled simultaneously).
Although the line is obscured amongst the jubilation Archie and Edith have in their reunion with Gloria at the airport, notice how Edith remarks that Gloria has put on weight. At the time this episode was filmed Sally Struthers was pregnant with her daughter Samantha thus the explanation of her weight gain. Struthers pregnancy would be much more noticeable at the All in the Family 200th episode which she appeared in several episodes later in which Norman Lear announced she was expecting her first baby.
Instead of the usual "All in the Family was filmed before a studio audience" this episode concludes with Carroll O'Connor saying "All in the Family was played before a studio audience for live responses". Every episode of this season was taped on a closed set without a live audience. This had been something Carroll O'Connor had pushed for; some believing O'Connor wanted more control of the scripts - without live performances, last minute script changes could be made during taping.
Originally an hour-long episode, but broken into two parts for syndication.
