When you watch the seventh episode in the first season of Netflix's breakout hit, Glow, then you'll likely find yourself hearing a very familiar voice. Rhonda, the bubbly, big-banged British member of the show's all-female wrestling group, comes up with a rap to hype up the crowd during the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling's first match with a live studio audience. "Glow, Glow, that's the name; women's wrestling is our game," she chants in the middle of the ring. "If we play rough, please don't blame us; our style is wild, and you know you can't tame us!" If Rhonda's voice gives you a major case of déjà-vu in that scene, might I ask if you're a fan of the 2007 song "Foundations"? Or "Merry Happy"? Because Rhonda (aka Britannica) is actually played by British singer-songwriter Kate Nash!

If “Agent Carter” teaches us anything, it should be that 85% of bad decisions are made either under the influence of mind-altering creations or due to institutionalized societal inequality. The entire season has reminded us again and again that sexism hurts everyone, and most dudes who perpetuate it don’t even realize they’re doing anything wrong. Misogyny is not a mustache twirling villain. It’s a behavior even decent people can fall prey to. One that must be unlearned through vigilant, life-long self-examination. That realization happens for all three leading male Agents in “Snafu.” Peggy Carter is in custody and her co-workers assume the worst, that she is a spy and a traitor and, worst of all, sleeping with Howard Stark. Dooley, Thompson, and Sousa all take turns in the interrogation room, each with their own tactic. That these men think one of their own would fall prey to the...

Kellan Lutz ‘The Legend of Hercules’: New Summit release has 0% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating (photo: Gaia Weiss and shirtless Kellan Lutz in ‘The Legend of Hercules’) Starring Kellan Lutz, best known as the hunky and likable vampire Emmett in the Twilight movies, The Legend of Hercules opens today, January 10, 2014, in North America. That’s the good news for Kellan Lutz fans. Now, the bad news: The Legend of Hercules isn’t about to become the next Spartacus — or even the next Gladiator. “The only thing epic about The Legend of Hercules is what a failure it is,” writes Stephanie Merry in the Washington Post, while Newsday‘s Rafer Guzman’s complains that “this painfully feeble version of the strongman story fails on every level, from Lutz’s wooden acting to the styrofoam special effects.” In fact, out of 35 reviews, the Summit Entertainment / Lionsgate Pictures release has a 0% approval rating...

Aram Rappaport’s cyber thriller “A Conspiracy on Jekyll Island” has added a couple of interesting names to its cast, including a pair of strong TV female leads in Mary McCormack (USA’s “In Plain Sight”) and Maggie Q., who is wrapping up the final season of her CW action series “Nikita”. The film also has Minnie Driver and Dianna Agront, along with John Leguizamo, Ed Westwick, AnnaSophia Robb, and Dominic Cooper. Frank Grillo will star as an ex-Wall Street man “whom the Secretary of the Treasury enlists to thwart a cyber attack that threatens to derail the American economy. With the help of his wife, he recruits his ragtag team of misfits, and prepares to save the world from total financial implosion.” No idea who is playing who (except Grillo), but “The Conspiracy on Jekyll Island” is set for 2014. Rappaport previously directed 2009′s “Innocent” and recently, “Syrup” with Amber Heard and Shiloh Fernandez.

Moviefone's DVD of the Week:
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"
What's It About? The first installment of Peter Jackson's three-part adaptation of the beloved J.R.R. Tolken novel, "The Hobbit," follows an epic quest to retain a treasure. Martin Freeman stars as the titular Bilbo Baggins hobbit (the younger version of Ian Holm's Bilbo), who travels with a pack of dwarves to reclaim their stolen treasure from the vicious dragon Smaug.
Why We're In: While Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey" is in no way as grand or as incredible as his "Lord of the Rings" films, it is still a fun and worthy visualization of the book.

What a delicious irony. The same weekend the shameless product placement vehicle The Internship hits North American cinemas, discerning audiences will also be able to seek out Syrup, an adaptation of the brilliantly satirical Max Barry novel of the same name which takes square aim at marketing bullshit. Directed by Aram Michael Rappaport, Syrup stars Amber Heard, Shiloh Fernandez, Kellan Lutz and Brittany Snow, and while the short synopsis doesn't do the story justice here it is: A lowly marketing exec enlists the help of a scarily beautiful, brainy co-worker to save his million-dollar idea from corporate espionage in this scathingly funny send up of sex, celebrity, and greed. For those wondering about the headline, Fukk is the name of a fictional energy drink used in the book and film,...

Stover and Barrie M. Osborne, also co-stars Josh Pais, Toby Hemingway, Greg Paul and Rachel Dratch. Syrup is an edgy comedy that exposes the cut-throat world of advertising through the eyes of a young prodigy chasing fame, fortune, and the woman of his dreams. Fresh out of school with a degree in marketing, Scat will do anything to prove that he has what it takes to swim with the rich and wildly successful. Scat comes up with a brilliant new product that gives new meaning to the old saying “sex sells.” He is sure it will send him right to the top…if only he can convince his boss, the beautiful and mysterious “6,” that it's an idea worth millions.

May is a big month for Kellan Lutz as it not only sees two of his films (Java Heat and Syrup) debut, but he's hard at work on Tarzan, a motion-capture retelling of Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic story.

The first weekend in June might be a good weekend for indie movies. With the Shawn Levy-directed The Internship starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn not garnering much buzz, you might be looking for something else to watch. Ok, so Joss Whedon's beloved take on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing will open that weekend, but let's say you're in the mood for some dramedy (and pretty young people). Then Syrup might be for you. Based on Max Berry's best-selling book, the film stars Shiloh Fernandez, Amber Heard and Kellan Lutz and explores the cut-throat world of advertising. The story is told through the eyes of a prodigy chasing fame, fortune and the girl of his dreams. Syrup arrives in theaters June 7. Did you read the book? Does the movie look good?...

Is it possible that all of your likes, your dislikes, the very tastes that you feel define you as a human being, aren’t really choices that you’ve made for yourself at all, but ideas that have been sold to you by slick, suit-wearing predators who pride themselves on being able to tap into your ego and insecurities in order to brainwash you into believing whatever what they want you to believe? Are you such a mindless follower that you’ve bought your entire identity off of a billboard? These are the heady questions at the center of Max Barry’s debut novel “Syrup,” which is a satirical tale set in the world of product marketing. And they’re the heady questions at the center of director Aram Rappaport’s new film adaptation of the story, which stars names like Shiloh Fernandez, Brittany Snow, and Amber Heard. Does watching a group of smug, pretty...

"We take image very seriously." Magnolia Pictures has debuted a trailer for the indie film Syrup, based on Max Barry's "cult" business/marketing novel of the same name. It tells the story of a young marketing exec who comes up with a million-dollar idea, but "has to learn to trust his attractive corporate counterpart." The concept behind this isn't bad, but there's something extra cheesy about the cast and the marketing dialogue that makes everything feel a bit too fake. The cast includes Brittany Snow and Amber Heard as the sex sellers, plus Shiloh Fernandez, Kellan Lutz, Rachel Dratch and Josh Pais. Not great, but may be fun. Here's the first official trailer for Aram Rappaport's adaptation Syrup, found on YouTube: A slacker named Scat (Shiloh Fernandez) hatches a million-dollar idea. But, in order to see it through, he has to learn to trust his attractive corporate counterpart.

After an underwhelming trailer and flashy set photos, we thought the film adaptation of Max Barry’s novel “Syrup,” might show up at Sundance. It didn't, but along the way, Magnolia Pictures landed the film and, with a theatrical and OnDemand release around they corner, they’ve also dropped a brand new trailer. Directed by Aram Rappaport and featuring "Evil Dead" star Shiloh Fernandez, Amber Heard and Kellan Lutz, the film looks to posit itself as a sleek, winking satire on the advertising and business worlds. As the trailer shows, Fernandez plays Scat (yes, that’s his name), who brainstorms a soda beverage called Fukk Cola and bands together, both romantically and professionally, with 6 (Heard), the production manager at Coke. Yes, that’s her name as well, and speaking of promotional attempts aimed to please, the trailer doesn’t exactly sell the film’s charms. Amidst the rampant dolly whip-pans...

Changing appearances for the sake of entertainment is nothing new in Hollywood; it's all part of the gig. But when professional heartthrob Ryan Gosling tweaks his look, disgruntled fans are going to have something to say about it.
In "The Place Beyond the Pines," Gosling sports a bleach-blond 'do for his role as a motorcycle racer-turned-bank robber. As photos started surfacing during the film's production, people were wondering what the heck was going on with his hair. Serious drama.
But since Gosling isn't the first to drastically dye his hair for a film, we rounded up a few other male counterparts who didn't necessarily pull off going blond, to make him (and everyone else) feel a little better about it.
Javier Bardem, 'Skyfall'

Drive 3D co-star Amber Heard has been cast alongside Kevin Costner and Liam Hemsworth in the McG-directed action thriller, Three Days to Kill.
The story centers on a Secret Service agent played by Costner "who decides to retire in order to reconnect with his estranged family. Heard will play the woman who offers him access to an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment, which Costner must complete while coping with the drug's hallucinatory side effects." Luc Besson wrote the script for the film with Adi Hasak.
I'm not the biggest fan of Heard, she's such a terrible actress, and I'm surprised every time she gets cast in a film. Yeah, she's good looking, but it doesn't hide the fact that she can't act.

But, in order to see it through, he has to learn to trust his attractive corporate counterpart.

Young people doing bad things is a familiar trope in indie flicks, featuring in everything from "The Rules Of Attraction" to "Cruel Intentions" to "The Informers" and more. Amber Heard has already been down that path as the star of "The Informers," and once again it looks like she'll be in a film where everyone seems just a little bit crooked. Following the arguably amateur-ish trailer released last month, a few more pics from "Syrup" have landed online. Co-starring Shiloh Fernandez and Kellan Lutz, and directed by Aram Rappaport, the story follows Scat (Fernandez) who discovers the idea for a new soda beverage named Fukk Cola. "The fucking American Dream in a can," he says. He pitches it to 6 (yes, that's her name, and she's played by Heard), the production manager at Coke, who agrees that it has massive potential to make them rich. But Scat's roommate Sneaky Pete sees this opportunity for wealth and.

This is the pitch that Shiloh Fernandez's Scat delivers to sell his brainchild.a new kind of soda.to potential investors. And just like that, the teaser for Syrup is off and running with a shrewdly satirical tone that looks to skewer not only contemporary corporate America, but also sexual politics and the very concept of celebrity. Based on the novel by Max Barry, this dark comedy follows Scat, a slacker who believes his bubbly brainchild is his ticket to fame, fortune and all the power both bring. Featuring one of Hollywood’s hottest, but underutilized actresses, Amber Heard alongside Shiloh Fernandez, Syrup is based on the 1999 Max Barry’s comic novel of the same name.
A satirical comedy of marketing and consumerism is co-written and directed by Aram Rappaport (Innocent).
The story follows Scat (Fernandez) who discovers the idea for a new soda beverage named Fukk. He pitches it to ‘6’ (Heard), the production manager at Coke, who agrees that it has massive potential to make them rich. But Scat’s roommate Sneaky Pete (Kellan Lutz) sees this opportunity to climb the corporate ladder, and steals the idea.
While Brad Pitt, Winona Ryder, Tom Cruise and Gwyneth Paltrow all make appearances in the book, something tells us this indie didn’t manage to get them.
The film also stars Brittany Snow.
No release date or distributor yet.

I have been waiting patiently for Max Barry's novels to make their way to the big screen, but Syrup was not the one I thought would get made first. Barry is an excellent Australian author who has penned four novels: Syrup, Company, Machine Man, and Jennifer Government.
