I am surprised and also happy to discover an episode directed by the great Phil Karlson himself. Oh, I know, he was not John Ford nor Sam Peckinpah or John Struges, but a powerful B pictures film maker, especially film noirs. But not only. You have here a kind of father son relationship which make me think of another Phil Karlson's feature GUNMAN'S WALK, starring Van Heflin and Tab Hunter. The two stories are not exactly the same though. I am sure that Karlson was not entirely monitoring the writing and the production of this TV stuff. A big screen movie would have been different on many points, with the Karlson's touch. Exccellent ending.
