Frederick Selous, here played by Paul Freeman, was the real life basis for H. Rider Haggard's fictional hero Alan Quatermain, who in turn inspired the character of Indiana Jones.

In 1999 Lucasfilm announced British East Africa, September 1909 to be the first half of The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Passion for Life (2000), the second half being Paris, September 1908 (1993). Passion for Life was finally released on DVD on October 23, 2007 and is available on The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones Volume 1, Disc 2.
