- TriviaDuring the opening scene (post credits), the camera pans past several gravestones. The name on one of the gravestones is Raymond Soames. Ray Soames is a character in Pilot (1993) about whom the plot revolves.
- GoofsWhen Scully and Pfaster are rolling down the stairs, as they reach the bottom step a crew hand is visible on the left hand side rising up to stop them falling into the camera.
- Quotes
Mulder: It's been said that fear of the unknown is an irrational response to the excesses of the imagination. But our fear of the everyday, of the lurking stranger and the sound of footfalls on the stairs, the fear of violent death and the primitive impulse to survive, are as frightening as any X-File; as real as the acceptance that it could happen to you.

A Grisly Series of Boring Scenes!
Another awful serial murderer episode that is so high on the schlock factor it could have been used for an episode of MST3K. First, there's nothing paranormal here, this is like a terrible cop procedural using a case "ripped from the headlines," about some ridiculous creep who abuses corpses and murders women. At first the episode pretends maybe he's Nosferatu or something, but it's all fake, he's just a terrible TV murderer.
The actor, bless him, I'm sure he's giving them what they asked for, but he plays it as such a stone cold psychopath that women passing within 1000 yards of him would full body shiver without knowing why. The idea that anybody doesn't immediately just assume he's a serial killer beggars belief.
Otherwise the plot is totally boring, the characters wander around in an amazed daze that anyone can be this evil, but this means nothing to us in the audience and does nothing to advance the plot. Scully is terrified by this case and has visions, I don't why, none of it makes sense, it's just meant to be paranormally because the story is just a repurposed Law and Order script that wasn't up to their standards.
Anyways, Scully ends up kidnapped because that's a thing the writer said happened. How does the bad guy so easily find Scully, knowing she's a main character? We don't know, he just does.
As a fan of The X-Files my favorite episodes all came from the monster-of-the-week ones, the mythology ones usually went nowhere and were meaningless, which was super annoying when you only got one episode a week! But they're still figuring it out at this point in the series.
