It looks like the second story will have two distinct storylines. There can no way become connected.
It begins with a young woman on a train who changes into a more proactive outfit. Later two bodies are found in a secluded lake, one of them had been there for some years.
Commissioner John Brandon wants psychologist Tony Hill right from the off. He also takes an interest on another case Carol Jordan has been working on. Footballer turned presenter Jack Vance (John Michie ) and his wife Amanda Vance (Doon MacKichan) present a lifestyle type television show. (More, This Morning with Richard and Judy than Philip and Holly.)
Only someone is stalking Amanda and the family dog is later killed.
As for the murdered girls on the lake, it seems the two victims had a similar look. Hill is convinced that there have been more murders over the years.
The story very much has its roots in Val McDermid's writings. It is not as gruesome as the first story of the series although the character of Angelica Bain does make an appearance. It adds a touch of trauma to Hill's character.
The episode ends with two interesting cases with one unhinged stalker.
