A Remake Worth Watching
nlathy-839-3006777 June 2023
I don't think I've seen the earlier episode. Yet it doesn't matter. This is good entertainment. Stewart Granger, Burgess Meredith and Robert Fuller in a movie keeps me watching. The suspense never wavers. And there are plenty of heart warming moments, too. Of course, this is the Virginian, so it's bound to be moving. And it also means you can expect plenty of action. The dialog is outstanding. I would like to see Shiloh in an episode. Medicine Bow is missed, also. Still this looks just fine. The episode takes on the look of a Robert Wise film noir, when the story shifts to night time. They don't make shows like this anymore.

I believe this is an episode from season 7

Warning: Spoilers
Did the writers run out of new ideas or what, I know this is season 9 of the series but with the name changed to "The Men From Shiloh", a new theme song, and new duds for "The Virginian & Trampas" the episodes should be new as well. This episode is from Season 7 "Dark Corridor", some of the character names were changed, but pretty much the same exact story. "Dark Corridor" was better then "Flight to Memory" the acting was much better. Ironically Robert Fuller plays the part of "Ellis" in this one, while his "Laramie" costar John Smith plays the exact same part in "Dark Corridor". Robert Fuller's talent was totally wasted in this episode. I give "Flight to Memory" a 3 or of 10.

Double Deal

Warning: Spoilers
Agreed this is an almost exact copy of a previous episode and the acting is nowhere near as good.

The storyline is as follows:

Colonel MacKenzie is riding past a snow capped mountain and sees a dark horse in the distance with a dazed rider. When Colonel MacKenzie approaches the rider is thrown off her horse so the Colonel takes her to a cabin where he puts her on a bed and is able to ascertain her name is Melissa.

The cabin's owner Muley arrives with a long rifle and the Colonel greets him to avoid being a target. Together they look after the woman Melissa much to Muley's initial disdain as he has a policy of no females in his cabin.

Down in the valley below a man, who says he is her brother, is looking for her as she was supposed to go to a wedding and has gone missing.

Fake Virginian Episode
chpayne-1228324 October 2019
Stewart Granger is not the Virginian. They tried a remake of an original story. Robert Fuller portrays his role well and Burgess Merdith (original was Paul Winchell) but still a remake.

You Can Tell The End Is Near

The writers were out of new ideas and knowing it was the last season, probably didn't care at that point. Like a Three Stooges short, this episode is almost a complete remake of an earlier one that featured The Virginian instead of Colonel MacKenzie in the lead role. Stewart Granger looks totally bored and Burgess Meredith is there for the paycheck. Trish Sterling is awful here. Only Robert Fuller seems to put any effort into his role. Couldn't wait for this to end. It's sad because most of the Men From Shiloh episodes were entertaining with top notch casts and decent story lines. This one is an exception.
