This episode, Art and Illusion, pretty much touches on a sort point, and that is the role of the wives of university presidents (the UK equivalent of the vice-chancellor), and here the wife of the fictional Lowlands University vice-chancellor is very pretentious, and it reminded me of the wives of two British universities (one in Warwickshire and one in Bristol) who were above their stations by virtue of being the wife of a vice-chancellor.
I think A Very Peculiar Practice could have easily run for three or more seasons. Takashi Kawahara, who was pivotal as Chen Sung Yau, a confidant of Dr Stephen Daker (Peter "Dr Who" Davison) starred in series one but unfortunately wasn't brought back for series two.
