The gangsters are holed up in a hotel near Richmond, Virginia when one of the gang members is killed. The newspaper they are reading from is named "Philadelphia Globe."
Several times after murders committed by William Bendix's character, Eliot Ness recovers revolver shell casings from the crime scene. Shell casings fired from a revolver are not automatically ejected from the gun, as they would be from a semi-automatic pistol; they would remain in the revolver's cylinder until deliberately removed by the shooter. Hence, they would not be found at the crime scenes.
Wally Legenza, while in the front seat of the car, murders Weinberg who is riding in the back seat. After the first shot, Weinberg falls towards the passenger side of the car, but Legenza fires several more shots while aiming high and towards the driver's side of the back seat.
