"I'm looking for love!"

Warning: Spoilers
1973 saw the debut of 'Some Mothers Do Ave Em', and before the year was out, Frank was back. Ignoring the conclusion of the previous series ( which suggested that Frank and Betty had emigrated to Australia ), it continued more or less where it left off. Frank is still out of work. Following a sequence in a library where he upsets the box containing the tickets, we see him wrecking a chicken shed. Frank is trying to develop an interest in agriculture so he can apply for a job as salesman with a fertiliser company.

The interview is a disaster, but the manager ( Vernon Dobtcheff ) agrees to employ him for a trial period. One of the perks is a company car. Great news. Except that Frank has not yet passed his test. Betty has her licence, so they head off into the country for a picnic. She then expresses an interest in motherhood...

So it was business as usual, with a few minor changes. Jane Hylton did not return as Betty's mother, and sexy Michele Dotrice shone a bit more brightly, particularly with the pregnancy theme running through Season 2. The stunts got more ambitious too. The credit 'Action By Havoc' appeared on a few '70's shows, most notably 'Dr.Who' and 'Manhunt'. 'Havoc' was the collective name for a team of stunt-men, and they earned their money on this show, even if Crawford and Dotrice did do all their own stuff. The finale with the car hanging over the edge of a cliff is one of the best remembered in the series, owing a debt to 'The Italian Job'.

Elissa Derwent, seen fleetingly as 'Joan' ( the librarian who thinks Frank is a pervert ), made a memorable appearance ( in both senses of the word ) in the 'Billy Liar' episode 'Billy & The Lost Weekend'.

Funniest moment - knowing that should anything happen to the car he will have to reimburse the company, Frank climbs over the roof in an effort to open the boot and release the fertiliser he has stored there. He is successful but then is left hanging from the exhaust pipe!

A brilliant start to the new series.

Betty is a little depressed, but a well meaning, never say die Frank deduces that if he gets a job, he'll land a company car, and able to take the love of his life to the seaside.

A wonderful start to the second series, and definitely a sign of things to come. The Stunts are off the scale.

It's brilliant, it's just brilliant, such a funny episode from start to finish. The scenes in the library are hilarious, the scenes with his potential employer are side splitting, but the moment with the car is just unbelievable, the sheer imagination and quality of writing are immense.

Once again, Crawford's physical antics are amazing, what a fearless actor, hilarious.

The look on Betty's face when she opens her eyes, and realises exactly where the car is, just priceless, Dotrice is just fabulous.

9/10.

Frank Goes Over the Edge

The second series begins with Frank Spencer causing even more chaos. He causes chaos at the library. The young librarian things Frank is a pervert when he tells her that he is looking for love. He meant the romance section.

After looking after the neighbours chickens, where Frank destroys the chicken shed. He hopes to get a new job as an agricultural salesman.

The job comes with a car and Frank hopes he can take Betty to the seaside. Even though he has not yet passed his driving test.

Only Frank and Betty are left hanging for their dear lives when the car rolls back to the edge of the cliff.

It certainly was a cliffhanger, straight out of the Italian Job. It was astonishing to see Michael Crawford do his stunts, it so well staged.

With Betty talking about motherhood, you do wonder how Frank will cope with a baby.
