Episode 70 begins season 4

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 70 starts off season 4 in the hospital, where Mary finally gives birth to a son, brought in by a black nurse, who is stunned to hear the mother exclaim "what color is it? Oh thank God,he's white!"(of course, she was worried he might turn out to be silver, leading the nurse to conclude the father must be R2D2!) Jessica's doctor conveys that she seems to have fought off the fatal virus, but still needs to come out of her coma.Realizing they were kidnapped by Tibbs,Burt and Danny escape from their motel room disguised in dresses(Danny:"looks like someone had a party!" Burt:"I think we did!" Danny:"you think we had a good time?" Burt:"must have been,we were the last ones to leave!").Burt refers to the bewigged Danny as "Jennifer," while Danny thoughtfully zips up Burt's dress(Burt:"thank you!" Danny:"any time!" one of the funniest scenes from this final season). They explain their absence from the hospital due to being attacked by a gorilla(Danny's excuse).Dutch uses a deck of cards to help him decide between the Tate sisters(higher card wins); Eunice gloats over her victory, and Corinne announces that she was thinking of getting out on her own anyway to begin a new life with her son.Billy, held at gunpoint for several hours by Leslie, manages to avoid the misfired shot, which strikes Saunders in the temple(Jessica's reaction:"I didn't know he was Jewish!") Jessica recovers from her near-fatal illness, and is delighted to learn that the doctor is naming the disease after her("The Jessica Syndrome").Her sister Mary's reaction:"Jess, you're alive!" Jessica:"Of course Mary,if I were dead,I couldn't respond!" and everyone meets the new baby, who looks perfectly normal. In Wendy's custody case,Judge Betty Small had reached a verdict in favor of Carol, until receiving a phone call from Carol's mother, admitting to perjury on the stand,so the final judgment goes to Jodie; the vengeful and bitter Carol vows to make him wish he'd never had a daughter(this would be Rebecca Balding's final appearance on the show).Burt and Danny receive a package of incriminating photographs(Burt:"if only we weren't smiling!"),with a note from Tibbs(Danny:"I hope it doesn't say anything!") The note reads:"Campbell, hit my parlors and these pictures hit the papers...have a nice day!" Danny's response:"Did he sign it?" Reviewer's note: the prior entry with Beatrice Arthur(JESSICA'S WONDERFUL LIFE,a one-hour overview of the events that transpired during season 3)was never made available in syndication,so this reviewer chooses to ignore it as a legitimate episode. This season premiere was also a one-hour broadcast, the show moving to Wednesday nights after 3 years on Tuesday nights.
