- TriviaThere were difficulties getting this episode up to the minimum length of an episode and many scenes were added in post-production. The episode starts with a repeat of a couch gag that was first used in Lisa's First Word (1992), which is considerably longer than the typical couch gag. The crew added an Itchy & Scratchy cartoon and a few misleads as to who was trying to kill Bart. Even with all of these additions, the episode still ran short of time. This led to the creation of the rake sequence, which became a memorable moment of the episode, and the entire series.
- GoofsIn the final scene, when the Simpsons arrive back at their house they drive straight past it and Grampa Simpson is not in the garden. In the next shot they are stopping outside their house and Grampa Simpson is standing in the garden.
- Quotes
[the Simpsons are being placed in the Federal Witness Protection Program]
FBI Man #1: Tell you what, sir, from now on, you'll be Homer Thompson at Terror Lake. Let's just practice a bit, hmm? When I say "hello, Mr. Thompson", you'll say "hi".
Homer: Check!
FBI Man #1: Hello, Mr. Thompson.
[Homer stares blankly]
FBI Man #1: Remember now, your name is Homer Thompson.
Homer: I gotcha.
FBI Man #1: Hello, Mr. Thompson.
[again Homer stares blankly]
FBI Man #1: [FBI men stare at each other]
[hours pass by]
FBI Man #1: [frustrated] Argh... Now when I say "hello, Mr. Thompson" and press down on your foot, you smile and nod.
Homer: No problem.
FBI Man #1: [stepping hard on Homer's foot] Hello, Mr. Thompson.
Homer: [stares blankly again for a few seconds, then whispers to the other FBI man] I think he's talking to you.

Bart is receiving death threats in the post, causing him to live in fear and stress. It is soon revived that Sideshow Bob had been sending the letter and he had just been released from prison. The Simpson family are placed in the FBI witness protection program, and relocated to Lake Terror. But Sideshow Bob was able to follow the family and wants to exact his bloody revenge on Bart.
Cape Feare is the Simpsons' version of Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear, with many scenes lifted and parodied. It fun to see the Simpsons' twist on that psycho thriller (as well as some other film references). They are top notch jokes, good voice acting, excellent animation and even a good few musical numbers. All key parts of what made the Simpsons successful. A great moment for the Simpsons.
