Macaulay Culkin was only the second person born after Saturday Night Live (1975) debuted on October 11, 1975 to host an episode. The first was Fred Savage.
Macaulay Culkin and Rob Schneider would later work together on Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), which was released in the year after this episode premiered.
The "Young Superboy" sketch was originally written for Fred Savage/Technotronic (1990) but did not get past dress rehearsal at that time. The theme music was previously used for the "Drunk Man" sketch in Angie Dickinson/Buster Poindexter/David Gilmour (1987) and will become the main theme used for Weekend Update during Norm MacDonald's time as anchor.
Macaulay Culkin's father Kit Culkin insisted that the episode not use cue cards so he could get news out that his son could memorize large amounts of text in little time. This angered the cast and crew because the show usually works on sketches up until the last minute (hence the need for cue cards) and they needed to rearrange their entire workflow to accommodate Kit's demands and give cast members enough time to memorize their lines.
