The mayor has lost a bet against his Ledegem colleague Paaltjes whose town has more inhabitants. The looser has to eat a big bowl of Brussels sprouts. Ever helpful Gert suggests a way out of that culinary horror: pretending to have lost his mind after an 'accidental' knock on the head. The mayor now pretends to be an ape, and Gert suggests the others should do the same to help him recover. The arrival of the ministerial delegate has surprising consequences, while Paaltjes invoke the bet clause that any mayoral substitute is also bound.
