Gert eagerly accepts to go shipping with Marlene, but Samson fears boredom so Gert brings him to town-hall. There the mayor scolds Van Leemhuizen's clumsy attempts to play the piano. He gives a demonstration, meant as a joke, but actually plays like a virtuoso without schooling. He realizes it must be the balm he spilled on his hands, and indeed it also works for Van Leemhuizen and Gert. The ministerial delegate is proudly invited, who even arranges for the minister come by. Only by then, it has worn off and the mayor ignores the actual ingredients.
