Funny time-travel episode

The crew discover a 'stasis leak' on floor 16 that works as a time portal.

I enjoyed this episode as a good sci-fi concept and because it contains some really funny banter from all characters.

The plot works well to set up a number of comical situations, mostly involving Rimmer or Cat. There is a bit of technobabble to explain the scientific theory behind what's going on which is used to set up the punchline of a pretty good joke about one character not understanding it.

The comedy banter is strong pretty much all the way through and I personally found most of the jokes worked well.

Whats notable for me is that by this episode I can see Rob Grant and'Doug Naylor were starting to realise the potential comedy value in the Cat and the character is being used to maximum potential. In fact the best jokes this episode for me all come from Danny-John Jules and he delivers them with great charisma and timing. My favourite being the line he says to the naked man in the shower.

My only issue with the episode is that the plot makes reference to certain events that happen in the future and this (as far as I know) is never revisited again during the show. It would have been cool if they had acknowledged this at some point in a later series.

Ghost of Rimmer Future
A complete madcap time travel episode, and one of the best in the series. Past Rimmer has some very Blackadder remarks all through the series, my favorites being his scene with the Captain in a chicken suit, which he thinks he's hallucinating. Of course Rimmer doesn't think to fix the drive plate. He just wants to survive the leak, crew be damned. That said, his rudeness and callousness comes from his belief that people don't like him. See how offended he is when Lister points out that Rimmer doesn't even like him. He's a total sociopath, an overgrown private school bully like the one from Jacqueline Wilson's Cliffhanger, but also a lonely man with no real friends.

This episode is hilarious, and goes the extra mile at the end.

The number of ways the writers find for Listy and the Gang meeting people from or visiting earth is brilliant. They are all original and more importantly: Funny. As this episode proves magnificently!

Stasis Leak

Warning: Spoilers
There are some good sci fi concepts in this episode as the crew discover a time corridor called a Stasis Leak. Something Holly has difficulty in explaining and Cat has great difficulties in understanding it.

The Stasis Leak on Floor 16 takes the crew back in Red Dwarf 3 million years earlier and several weeks before the accident.

Lister encounters his friend Petersen and tries to bring back Kochanski back to Red Dwarf via suspended animation. Rimmer wants to do the same but bring the alive Rimmer back. Cat meanwhile just feels frisky.

An amusing episode as past Rimmer thinks he is constantly hallucinating as Lister gave him magic mushrooms so he keeps insulting the captain of the ship.
