"The Hostage" opens with Johnny Yuma making a friendly call on Coley Wilks (Lon McCallister), a fellow rebel prisoner at Rock Island, who had promised him a chicken dinner the next time they met. Unfortunately, their meal is interrupted by outlaw Yancey Daggett (Corey Allen), who takes Coley hostage in exchange for the life of his equally nasty brother Frank (Stephen Joyce, previously seen in "The Ballad of Danny Brown"). The responsibility lies with Sheriff Jesse Wilks (Edward Kemmer, last of three), Coley's brother and a stickler for the law, which requires the signatures of all 12 jurors who sentenced Frank Daggett to hang for cold blooded murder. In the last of his nine appearances, William Bryant does an unbilled cameo as a losing card sharp who loses a fight with Johnny Yuma.
