Quotes

  • David Sandstrom : [sees that Lilith fell asleep while holding Mick's picture, then he sees that the bottle of sleeping pills is empty. he takes Lilith and shakes her]  Lilith? Lilith! Wake up!

    [Lilith wakes up]

David Sandstrom : Wake up! Come on, wake up! How many did you take?

    [in reply to Lilith's confusion]

David Sandstrom : Pills! How many pills did you take?

Lilith Sandstrom : [drowsily]  ... One.

David Sandstrom : Don't lie to me! How many?

    Lilith Sandstrom : Maybe two.

David Sandstrom : The bottle was half full, Lilith!

Lilith Sandstrom : Dad, I only took two!

David Sandstrom : Don't lie to me!

Lilith Sandstrom : [starts to cry]  I'm not lying! The bottle spilled...

    David Sandstrom : Spilled.

[goes to look on the floor and he sees that she's right; there are pills all over the floor]

Lilith Sandstrom : [as she is crying]  The bottle spilled. I took the bottle... I shouldn't have took the pills but I took the pills because I'm so tired... I need sleep and I can't sleep because I kept seeing his face...

David Sandstrom : Okay. Okay. Come here.

[David picks Lilith up and carries her to bed as she weeps]

  • Sarah Sandström : Lilith, you came out here to-to

    [chuckles]

Sarah Sandström : get a fresh start. Right? I mean, isn't that what you wrote in your email? Okay, you're fifteen. Now I don't know why a fifteen year old kid needs a fresh start, but I let you go. Knowing, quite frankly, that this day would come and here it is.

Lilith Sandstrom : Right. And you think that this is the answer. Just go back to all those stupid teachers and those stupid friends. None of it matters.

Sarah Sandström : What matters, Lil?

Lilith Sandstrom : I saw him die, Mom!

[at this, Sarah freezes, looking shocked]

Lilith Sandstrom : I held him.

Sarah Sandström : [kneeling down next to her daughter]  I'm sorry.

Lilith Sandstrom : And then they came and they took him and... now he's gone...

    Sarah Sandström : I know it's hard.

Lilith Sandstrom : It really hurts, Mom.

Sarah Sandström : I'm sure it does, but it'll get better. You'll see. You'll come home, and you won't be alone all the time, and things will be better. I promise.

[Lilith looks at her mom, then reaches out and hugs her]

    Sarah Sandström : I'm here. It's okay. It's okay.

  • David Sandstrom : U'm sorry I didn't ask you more about Mick.

Lilith Sandstrom : It's okay, Dad.

David Sandstrom : No it's not.

    [sighs]

David Sandstrom : I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to this stuff and I didn't want to say... I mean, I'm looking at you take all this on yourself, and I don't know why. This wasn't your fault, Lil. You did more for Mick than... anyone. He met you, and maybe, for the first time in his life, somebody knew. You made him feel like he belonged.

[he looks at his daughter and sighs]

David Sandstrom : Maybe that's how he made you feel too.

Lilith Sandstrom : That doesn't mean much.

David Sandstrom : It means he didn't die alone.

[At this Lilith looks up, her eyes full of tears]

David Sandstrom : That is pretty huge.

[Lilith opens her mouth to reply, but instead she begins to cry quietly and David holds her]

David Sandstrom : Okay. Okay. Listen. You have got to turn all of this into a good memory. But you're not gonna be able to do that here. You need to be in a place that you know, with people that you know, and with a mom that you know. Even if she is nuts.

    Lilith Sandstrom : Dad.

    David Sandstrom : Sorry.

    [looks at Lilith]

David Sandstrom : You know that I love you, right?

Lilith Sandstrom : [nods]  I love you too, Dad.

    David Sandstrom : Okay.

[gives Lilith a kiss and hugs her again]

    David Sandstrom : Okay.
