- [first lines]
- [Meg has entered the governor's office to find only Ted Douglas]
- Meg Morris: I'm sorry, I was looking for Mrs Davidson.
- Ted Douglas: I'm afraid you wont be seeing Mrs Davidson again. There's her resignation.
- [he indicates folded up paper on the desk]
- Meg Morris: What!
- [she picks it up and reads it]
- Meg Morris: I can't believe it.
- Ted Douglas: Yes, well it's true I'm afraid. It was the only solution. As you know things were becoming rather difficult around here lately.
- Meg Morris: Erica is not the sort to walk out on a difficult situation
- [pause]
- Meg Morris: You sacked her, didn't you?
- Ted Douglas: I can assure you that the final decision wasn't mine.
- Meg Morris: But it *was* the department?
- Ted Douglas: Yes.
- Meg Morris: This is ridiculous! What happened in the dining room wasn't Erica's fault. Oh for God's sake! What's the matter with the department?
- Ted Douglas: If I were you I wouldn't go around saying things like that, Mrs Morris. Applications for the position are open at the moment; you could be considered yourself.
- Meg Morris: If you can fire someone of Erica's calibre, I doubt an ex-inmate would be thought suitable.
- Ted Douglas: All applications will be treated equally.
- Meg Morris: There was nothing wrong with the governor we had. I'm sorry, Mr Douglas, but I think the whole thing *stinks*.
- Lizzie Birdsworth: [entering the dining room] Hey everybody, they've got Bea!
- Maxine Daniels: Well who told you that?
- Lizzie Birdsworth: I saw her, they've got her in the pound.
- Nola McKenzie: So the bitch is back, eh?
- Lizzie Birdsworth: [ignoring Nola] She looks real down, Maxie. I hope she's alright. Fergo wouldn't even let me see her.
- Nola McKenzie: She's looking pretty compared to how she'll look by the time I've finished with her.
- Lizzie Birdsworth: [raising her voice] What are you on about?
- Nola McKenzie: That bitch stole my money: nearly two and a half hundred dollars.
- Colleen Powell: That wouldn't look too bad, would it? If I could get rid of the dope trade.
- Meg Morris: Why don't you ask Smith to help you out?
- Colleen Powell: [laughs] Lag on the other women? God, you've got to be joking!
- Meg Morris: For drugs she just might.
