With Friends Like You, Who Needs Enemies?
Prismark1020 February 2024
Sammy Carson (George Sewell) is spending time with reformed gangster Bill Stacey (Victor Maddern) in the south of France.

It looks like Sammy wants to dig some dirt on someone. Soon Sammy is charged for killing Helen Charlesworth.

She was the estranged wife of John Charlesworth (Garfield Morgan) who makes copy of Grecian urns. He is now shacked up with a younger lover and also charters boats.

Paul Temple comes to the aid of Sammy. They are old friends but the forensics does not help Sammy. Skin tissue from the dead woman were under Sammy's fingernails. Sammy claims that someone slipped him a Mickey Finn.

The local police inspector leaves some vital documents behind for Paul to glance. Maybe he too thinks that Sammy was set up.

As there was location shooting, there was a lot of padding. A speedboat chase for some inexplicable reason but it looked pretty. The fight between Paul and Sammy, again done in longshot so you cannot see the stunt doubles was laughable.

Of course a plot like this is bound to involve smuggling.
