The Cleopatra conundrum
JordanThomasHall15 April 2020
Patty is accompanying Richard to read a part for the annual high school play. She ends up reading the role of Cleopatra for brash, hypercritical Mr. Strassman (English character actor Alan Mowbray) and he immediately gives her the part. Cathy, who wished the lead role, is given the part of Iris and to understudy Cleopatra. Patty goes to her father's newspaper office to type up an overflowing review of herself to send to top Hollywood producers. To creatively stand out, she sends a copy to Dore Schary (Walter Kattwinkel) but addressed to Jack Warner. Mr. Schary instantly sees through the scheme, but nonetheless impressed by her "initiative" has someone cover the play, and other studios follow his lead. Patty is consumed by a superior, immodest attitude. She awakes the day of the play to find her voice is now gruff garble. Dr. Lewis (Matt Crowley) insists it is psychosomatic resulting from a fear of failing, and that it will go away when her fear goes away. Cathy prepares to go on, with comical complications.

Some funny moments in this episode.
