Oscar has the operation but cannot raise his voice, which may be impossible living with Felix.
A very funny episode has Oscar on the Dick Cavett Show unable to talk, Felix intervenes. Phil Foster appears as the cantankerous surgeon Dr Krakauer. After Oscar comes home from the hospital, Felix feels guilty about annoying Oscar, and he develops hysterical laryngitis. Krakauer tells Felix his is a "nudge" who is punishing himself for driving Oscar crazy. After some burglars break in, both Felix and Oscar are tied up, Oscar unable to shout and Felix unable to talk. Murray arrives at the door and Felix finally is able to talk. After Murray goes after the thieves, Felix sings the song "Together Wherever We Go" (this is cut from the DVD). This is an inside joke since that song comes from the Broadway musical "Gypsy" which Jack Klugman appeared in.
