'My Family' was going through some changes at this point.
With his star on the rise after appearing in 'Love Actually', Kris Marshall (Nick) would now only make sporadic appearances in S5, and Daniella Denby-Ashe returns as Janey, having been absent from 4 (despite what this series DVD box tells you).
So it's left to Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker to keep the 'essence' of the show in tact, as it begins another era.
This episode is not a good start. Ben has now developed into a grump for no real reason, and there seems to be less warmth between him and Susan.
With no Nick it's left to Abi and Michael to frustrate Ben, through naturalism and religion. Thankfully Janey isn't being presented as being quite so dim at this stage too.
It's not a great episode, the show is still finding its feet.
