Stupid Brian decorates the living room.
Sleepin_Dragon31 December 2023
Susan has decided it's time to redecorate the living room, she employs Stupid Brian to do the job, but learns that it's not just decorating that he's been up to. Nick meanwhile, had a new hobby, that of a piano tuner.

I rather enjoyed this episode once again, good to see stupid Brian getting a bit more of an involved role, his scenes with Nick were very amusing, two idiots together.

Favourite scene definitely has to be Ben and Nick in the paint shop, it's almost a pity he didn't have a regular role there, that could have led to all sorts of comedy antics.

Do I remember the living room being a different colour, it always seemed to be that hideous terracotta colour.

A good, middle of the series episode.

8/10.

I Second That Emulsion

Another episode of good moments rather than being great overall.

It's nice to see this early version of 'My Family' though, where it was about day to day family life and things that could realistically happen. Ben and Susan actually spent more of the 11 year run as very nearly empty nesters than actually raising their kids.

The Ben and Nick scene in the paint shop was the best bit, though the short scene between Nick and Stupid Brian was fun too. Having two equally stupid characters in a sitcom probably didn't work though, and Brian would soon disappear to join Bridgette in the 'My Family ditched characters abyss'.

It's easy to forget that the series was breaking the usual BBC sitcom norm here by doing 13 episodes a year - that's unheard of, but it does mean the quality was a bit more mixed.

This episode was good enough overall.
