"Monkees on the Line" finds the chronically unemployed group working for a telephone answering service, ignoring the primary rule, 'Don't get involved with the clients.' Mike chases after a possible suicide (Susan Browning), not realizing she's an actress putting on an Oscar-worthy performance. Davy has trouble delivering a love note to a married cop, and all four get harassed by crooked gamblers using the answering service to place their illegal bets. The lone song is Neil Diamond's "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)," in its second straight appearance (happily, this marked the last time Don Kirshner received credit for 'Music Supervision,' having disobeyed a directive to put a Monkees-recorded B-side on the latest single). Broadcast no. 28 (Mar 27 1967), "Monkees on the Line" was 32nd in production (Feb 1-2), the final episode completed for the first season. Following a trip to England to promote the show's UK debut, and the month-long recording of third LP HEADQUARTERS, the band would resume filming Apr 5.
