A fun episode for the season finale
DVD_Connoisseur11 October 2018
Finishing the first season with an amusing tale, this is a satisfying episode.

The quirky Marcia Wallace plays the young lady trying to locate her missing fiancé (something of a reoccurring "Magnum, P.I." theme, this season).

There's lots of good humour and the cast are on top form.

8 out of 10.

Character driven episode!

Warning: Spoilers
Beauty Knows No Pain is a character driven episode! The character being Magnum! Sure Magnum asks for lot's of favors, but the favor deal goes reciprocal. Magnum being a strong easy going guy has everyone push the character into the grueling Iron man contest, while working on a missing person case for free training. Magnum's personal narration, and character interaction creates a goofy likable but serious character. The personality of a serious/smart but likable/ can empathies Magnum is the mix which make for a great detective. All I can write is the Iron man ends in a very Magnum way! Silly episode which makes for a great season final. 8 stars.

Guest starring Marcia Wallace

Warning: Spoilers
Beauty Knows No Pain is the season one finale of Magnum, P. I.. Guess what, it guest stars Marcia Wallace, who gained much fame as the voice of elementary school teacher Edna Krabappel in The Simpsons. I must admit, Marcia Wallace looks like Carol Burnett and Marcia could have played Carol in a biopic.

Anyway, Magnum has the honor of participating (well he was kind of pushed into it by T. C.!) in the Hawaii Iron Man competition, which was relatively new at the time - 1981. We see Magnum wearing short shorts for the event, so you can imagine the interest from the extras on set.

A sound ending to season one.
