The first scene has lots of references to the Himalayan bar scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). There are also some nods to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). The plot revolves around a woman similar to Marion Ravenwood. It aired in 1991, two years after Last Crusade.
The second MacGyver story in which a member of the Von Leer family and MacGyver are both seeking an archaeological relic, and the relic in question is in a cave which has been sealed and disguised in a way such that it looks natural, and then ends up sealed again, and the Von Leer character dies.
According to Deborah Foreman when speaking at Santa Fe Comic Con in 2021, her voice was completely dubbed by someone else for the entire episode. She did not find out until the episode aired, and was never offered any explanation for the decision.
The second MacGyver story to reference Egyptian mythology. Egyptian mythology is the basis of the central theme in Stargate SG-1, in which Richard Dean Anderson would later star for ten years. The titular "Osiris" in this story is a character in several episodes of Stargate SG-1.
