First appearance of Rosie and her bar.
Corporal Travis is shocked to hear about Ted Williams being drafted, stating "The Sox will never take the pennant without him." Ted Williams actually had his athletic career interrupted twice due to military service while playing for the Boston Red Sox. He was in the Marine Corps for three years during WWII, and he was recalled by the Marines on Jan. 9, 1952 for active duty in the Korean War. His last game with the Sox was April 30, which was declared "Ted Williams Day" in Boston, and he then reported for duty on May 2, 1952. He was out of baseball for 15 months, returning to play for the Sox for 37 games in late season 1953. The Boston Red Sox, however, did not win the pennant again until 1967, seven years after Ted Williams retired from baseball.
Radar stated he was 18. Gary Burghoff's actual age at the time of airing was 31 years, 6 months, 16 days.
When Colonel Blake is carrying Radar's turtle back, you can see the turtle has its own dog tags on a chain around it's neck.
Lt Col Blake tells Radar, who is in the hospital bed being treated for possible rabies, they found the dog and it's negative and you're going to be OK.
What Lt Col Blake didn't tell Radar, an animal lover, is Rabies testing in animals is performed using a direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) to stain fresh brain tissue. Full cross sections of the brain stem and cerebellum are required for a valid test. The head of the animal should be refrigerated and shipped as soon as possible after death.
Basically, the animal had to be destroyed and its brain removed to test for rabies.
