Silly type stuff
striklix25 April 2024
Again, I'm not the biggest fan over these older sitcom type shows, it very clearly shows it's age from the get go and it doesn't help that I find black and white television to be visually extremely dull in nearly every aspect. Although; despite all of that I can definitely see why this one has its fans, and it absolutely feels like it would've been a major hit around the time that it came out. Some pretty great comedic acting from the entirety of the cast but most specifically the two main girls and the funny plumber man, plus it gets really wacky and dumb which is exactly my type of humor. So despite having my problems with it I do find this to be a fun watch that has a lot of good comedy to it.

Out of the 'I Love Lucy' Loop

Warning: Spoilers
When Lucy and Vivian Vance attempt to install a shower, they become stuck in the shower as it fills up with water. Upon watching the episode again, I learned that the shower door was installed backwards by Viv, so it opened inward, making opening it with all that water pressure impossible.

I also didn't see the mentioned scene where Vivian had to pull Lucy up by her hair out of the water.

Nevertheless, this was one of the most memorable shows for us out of the I Love Lucy show.

It can be debated which shows are better: I Love Lucy or Lucy Show-Here's Lucy.

Many seem to dislike I Love Lucy, feeling that Ricky is imposing on Lucy Ricardo, regardless of her lack of talent.

On Lucy Show-Here's Lucy, Lucy must contend with a boss, Mr. Mooney, but we all must contend with a disagreeable boss. The feeling must be that Lucy didn't have to contend with such a disagreeable husband.

But I always felt her stunts on Lucy Show-Here's Lucy were extremely tame. She was older. There were no classic moments of grape-stomping, Vitameatavegamin or candy-factories.

Except for this shower episode. We could probably sort thru a few other Lucy Show plots and find two or three others that were solely unique and never originated on I Love Lucy, but the shower episode must be one of the most original.

We wanted to fill the bathtub up so badly like that when we were little.

One of the Most Overrated

This is certainly one of the most famous and popular episodes of THE LUCY SHOW because of the finale that finds Lucy and Viv trapped in their newly installed shower with water rapidly rising. But aside from the big stunt, the rest of it is not that well-written and seems pretty illogical.

To solve their bathroom congestion problem, they decide to use the boys' bedroom closet as the space for a new shower. Lucy uses flattery to trick Harry into installing it, but when he proves unable to do it himself he instead pays a plumber to do it - but without telling Lucy.

Why Harry would deem it HIS responsibility to pay for the installation just because he lacks handyman skills makes no sense. Why wouldn't he just offer to pay for it in the first place?? Oh right.... because Lucy would never accept charity. It just seems all so very convoluted. There is a scene between Harry, Viv's beau Eddie and the plumber and it's unusual for this show to have Lucy not be in a scene for such a long stretch.

Lucy wears a monogrammed (LC for Lucy Carmichael) casual blouse in this one and makes a Lloyd Bridges reference (likening the shower mishap to an episode of SEA HUNT). An episode of the WILL & GRACE reboot rips off the shower gag by trapping Grace and Karen in the same situation.

Revisiting this one, I found it very overrated.
