The murder of a drag racer

Warning: Spoilers
In this final episode of season 3, it's wonderful to see DI Aspinall stand up for DC Dangerous, when he had to front up to Chief Superintendent Pickard (Penny Bunton). DI Aspinall respects Dangerous, even if he thinks he's a bit of a square.

Also it's great to Dangerous reconciling with Julie. In fact in this episode Dangerous taking Julie along to a function, getting her tips on clues to solve the murder of a drag racer.

The Last Detective should have run longer for four seasons. It's a UK police drama series that shows the London inner city (Willesden, but looks like East Ham or Manor Park if you know what I mean, and the like). It has the gray skies, the rain. One scene was where Dangerous leaves a pub called Mallorey's and when he crosses the road, a car toots him - I wonder if the car driver intruded on set??!!

Dangerous again

This is the only episode from Season three that I was able to see. All the regulars were in it, and it was great to see the biting interplay between Dangerous and Mod Lewis again. Wonderful dialog: ''Depress the clutch! And I don't mean tell it your life story!'' Other series from Britain seem very trite and stale beside this one. A Touch of Frost relies on Jack Frost barking orders and casting baleful looks at his underlings. How much more realistic is The Last Detective.

The key to the show is that Davies will never be promoted, no matter how many cases he cracks, because he just does not have the look and the rough speech a detective should have. Truth to tell, he often is pained by the insensitivity and dullness of his detective colleagues. Hope this is not the last season for this show.

Willesden Confidential

It is murder in stock car racing. Geoff Fallon was burned to death as his car exploded due to a leaky fuel line.

Dangerous Davies is looking at some street lamps being vandalised by a local tearaway Roly Kingwell.

It turns out that Roly ws working in a burger kiosk at the race track. When Davies learns that Geoff Fallon has some years earlier had killed Roly's brother in a car accident. Roly becomes a suspect.

In fact there are no shortage of suspects. The Kingwell family and even Geoff's brother who was a rival stock car driver.

Geoff's death has bought a renewed interest in the sport which had been struggling.

DI Aspinall also does something stupid as he loses confidential information. Under potential investigation, Davies takes the hit for him. A realisation that Davies will never get promoted.

It was good to see that there is mutual respect between Aspinall and Davies. There is even some genuine warmness between Davies and his estranged wife.

I find the relationship between Davies and Mod just gets sillier.

The mystery itself goes round the houses a little. Just about everyone has a turn in the police interrogation room.
