Joan Jett is the first rock star to play a part in the series. Other music stars cast in "Highlander" roles include Roland Gift, Sheena Easton, Martin Kemp, and Roger Daltrey.
The choice of music - Johann Sebastian Bach's famous Ciaccona/Chaconne for solo violin - is probably related to what happens in this episode. Bach is said to have written this piece in memory of his first wife, and the character Devereux can be seen mourning his wife when the Chaconne is heard on the soundtrack.
Felicia Martins is the first female immortal depicted in the television series and the "Highlander" franchise in general. Starting with the film "Highlander" (1986), all previously depicted immortals were male.
The flashback of this episode is the first flashback scene to not involve Duncan MacLeod at all. Later episodes used flashback scenes to establish the backgrounds of various characters.
In this episode Duncan tells Felicia that he was given his Katana by a fellow immortal, a Clansman. It is established in S3 E1 The Samurai, that Duncan was actually given the Katana by a mortal he met in Japan.
