The episode features a flashback to the American Civil War. Duncan MacLeod is hanged by the Confederate forces, as a spy, and buried in a shallow grave . He is then rescued by immortal Lucas Desiree, who is serving at the time as a Confederate Captain.
The episode introduces a new subplot, involving law enforcement authorities. They are investigating the decapitations left behind by immortals, believing them to be the work of "psycho killers". The subplot was used during the first season only. In later seasons, violent deaths and disappearances of immortals (and their associates) seem to go mostly unnoticed.
Vincent Schiavelli and Amanda Wyss both had supporting roles in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" (Mr. Vargas, the biology teacher and Lisa, Brad Hamilton's girlfriend).
The episode introduces a new supporting character, investigative reporter Randi McFarland. Randi appeared in 6 episodes of the first season, before written out.
The hubcaps on Duncan's Thunderbird are the same ones that Slan Quince had on his car in Episode 1.
