Johny Voners (Xavier Waterslaeghers) dislocated his shoulder after diving to a ball. This happened while shooting the warming-up scene from 'De Nieuwe Truitjes'. In the actual scene he doesn't dive and Pico "advises" Xavier to dive then says, teasing: "If you're scared of that bit of water then you'll look great against De Spuiters".

The show's original lead character Oscar 'the Kampioen' Crucke would have been played by Jacques Vermeire and Dimitri De Tremmerie by Carry Goossens until the casting department as well as director and co-creator Willy Vanduren noticed Goossens's chemistry with Danni Heylen (Pascale). Vermeire had been Oscar from the get-go but one day during casting he had to leave early resulting in Goossens playing Oscar in front of other auditionees. This is how Goossens got the part of the popular innkeeper and Vermeire the part of the even more popular car mechanic.
The character Hippoliet "Pico" Coppens would have been played by Peter van Asbroeck, later known as officer Mike Van Peel in the police series Zone stad (2003) and as Werner in the Luc Beerten co-created soap series Thuis (1995). However, Van Asbroeck sustained a physical injury and could not play the part. Ann Tuts would advise her then-husband, the promising theatre actor Walter Michiels who convinced Willy Vanduren. The rest is a sad history of Michiels collapsing from alcohol abuse, getting fired after four seasons.
The green and red colored soccer ball on Oscar's distinctive beige sunbonnet gives off the green as the weeks pass, with that part becoming completely white. By Voetbalploeg zoekt trainer (1990), the show's tenth ever title, the green is gone.
