- Adam Carrington: [opening door and seeing it is Dana] I thought we'd said all we had to say.
- Dana Waring Carrington: [entering] We did, I guess. I just wanted to return this ring.
- [offers it]
- Adam Carrington: I don't want it. Sell it.
- [turns away]
- Dana Waring Carrington: You know I can't do that.
- [ring clatters on table as she drops it]
- Dana Waring Carrington: Adam... why are you treating me like this?
- Adam Carrington: You knocked on my door, remember?
- Dana Waring Carrington: Yes, I did, because I thought maybe... if we could talk about it again, I may understand why it's happening.
- Adam Carrington: What is so difficult to understand? I just decided I don't wanna be anybody's meal ticket.
- Dana Waring Carrington: [shocked] Why are you saying something like that to me? When have I ever-?
- Adam Carrington: [coldly] Dana, get it through your head, it is over!
- Dana Waring Carrington: [devastated] I'm trying... I'm trying, but the more I try, the less it makes sense. I know you love me...
- Adam Carrington: And you're kidding yourself.
- Dana Waring Carrington: [very hurt and vulnerable] Oh, Adam, why are you doing this to me? I don't know what is going on, but I know this isn't you. Please, Adam, whatever is wrong, I love you, let me help.
- Adam Carrington: [yelling] I don't want your help! The only thing I want from you is to be left alone.
- [causing her to retreat completely]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [as bare-chested Steven leaves room] Oh no, this isn't what you think. I mean, Steven is living here only because of Danny. We're... there's nothing between us, we're just friends.
- Dana Waring Carrington: You trying to convince me or yourself of that?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: It shows, huh?
- Dana Waring Carrington: Mm-hm.
- [Sammy Jo gives a little laugh, looks away]
- Dana Waring Carrington: Does he feel the same way?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Steven's been good to me, but I guess this is more one-sided.
- Dana Waring Carrington: I guess we have that in common, don't we?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Yeah.
- Steven Carrington: Sammy Jo, should I just go back to bed-?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: No, no, no, no, no. I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound like that. It's just that I really do know how she's feeling. Loving someone who doesn't love you back.
- [he looks at her, and she sighs]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: And the truth is, when you walked into the room, I wasn't thinking about Dana. I was thinking about me.
- Steven Carrington: [nods] And that made you sad?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [looking away, little laugh] I've been happy these past few weeks, I really have. Danny has his parents again, and you've been very good to me, and... and it's been a home again. But being together again like this, so close, it makes me remember how it was. And I can't lie to myself anymore about my feelings. I'm just afraid they might push you away.
- Steven Carrington: You know, it hasn't been easy for me, either, for a lot of reasons. Maybe not all the same as yours, but... just as real. I came out here because I knew you were up. I guess maybe, I was remembering too.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: What are you saying?
- Steven Carrington: All I'm saying is that...
- [sighs]
- Steven Carrington: when I look at you... I feel.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [encouraging:] What do you feel, Steven?
- [he sighs, she cups his chin, looking into his eyes]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: You know what I feel when I think about you? I feel beautiful.
- [he smiles]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: And warm, and loving... and safe.
- [warm smile]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: You make me feel all of that, Steven. And sometimes it's hard to hide that from you. Remember the first time we made love? And how it started?
- Steven Carrington: Yeah. You said nobody kisses anymore.
- [she nods]
- Steven Carrington: Really kissed.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: And...?
- Steven Carrington: And... we kissed.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [kisses him] And kissed
- [again]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: and kissed. And kissed.
- [embraces him close]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: God, Steven, I missed you so much.
- Nurse: [weighing Krystina] Good for you!
- Krystle Carrington: [entering] Hi, sweetheart.
- Krystina Carrington: [rushing towards Krystle] Look, Mommy, I gained a whole pound!
- Krystle Carrington: [picking her up] Oh, that's wonderful!
- Nurse: Isn't it?
- [laughs]
- Nurse: I'll go get her breakfast.
- [leaves]
- Krystle Carrington: Okay, my little one. What shall we do today?
- Krystina Carrington: Sarah said we could have a tea party. Can we, Mommy?
- Krystle Carrington: A tea party? Well, I don't know why not. You like Sarah, don't you?
- Krystina Carrington: She's nice.
- Krystle Carrington: Yes, she is.
- Krystina Carrington: Can she stay with us?
- Krystle Carrington: She can stay as long as she wants.
- Krystina Carrington: Good.
- [both laugh happily]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Uh, when I woke up this morning, you were already gone.
- Steven Carrington: Yeah, I know, I'm sorry, I had an early meeting. I should have left a note.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: That wouldn't have been necessary. About last night, my first thought was to apologize and that was probably yours too. But I don't think that makes any sense. I mean, we're both adults and last night was very beautiful and very loving.
- Steven Carrington: Sammy Jo, I...
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Shh.
- [covers his lips]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: I've been rehearsing this all day, and I wanna say it. When I woke up this morning and you were already gone, I thought... I mean, I didn't know what to think. For a minute, I actually panicked and thought you might never come back. I don't know how many times I picked up the phone to call you, but I couldn't think of what to say.
- Steven Carrington: I wanted to call you too.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: You did?
- Steven Carrington: Yeah.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Steven, I'm so happy to see you. You came home and everything's gonna be all right.
- [hugs him]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: I'm so glad we broke our promise.
- [but over her shoulder, Steven looks troubled]
- [last lines]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [coming from bedroom, golden silk night-gown] Steven...
- Steven Carrington: [stretched out on couch, pretens to be reading magazine] Yeah?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: It's kind of lonely in there. Aren't you coming to bed?
- Steven Carrington: [distant] In a minute.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [comes nearer] I've created a problem for us, haven't I? I mean, I should have known last night when you didn't come to bed until I was asleep.
- [sitting on the couch with him]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: And then you left this morning before I woke up.
- Steven Carrington: [gently] Sammy Jo... it's not your fault, it's mine.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Don't say that.
- Steven Carrington: No, I have to. Last night, I wanted to talk to you.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: But we talked.
- Steven Carrington: No, you talked. I listened.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: I'm sorry.
- [turns to face him]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: I'm listening now.
- Steven Carrington: [gets up wearily] I don't... I'm not sure... what to say. Before the other night, I thought I knew who I was, and what I felt, and what I couldn't feel...
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: And now?
- Steven Carrington: [shakes his head] Now I don't know.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Steven, when we made love, you were... you were gentle and sensual. Everything a woman wants in the man she loves. And you made me feel very beautiful. Now, are you saying that, that wasn't real?
- Steven Carrington: No, of course not.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: That you were faking it, for my sake? Is that what you're saying?
- Steven Carrington: No, don't you understand? It was very real.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Steven. I'm not an expert at this. But couldn't it be that we...? We just have to give it a chance? Give us a chance?
- [sighs]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Unless you're saying goodbye.
- Steven Carrington: No, I'm not saying that.
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Then you won't leave? I mean, yesterday I found myself going through the clothes in your closet, making sure that they were still there and that you weren't leaving.
- Steven Carrington: And they were there, weren't they? And I didn't leave you, did I?
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: And you're not gonna leave me now? Just give us a chance, Steven. Together, we're so good for Danny. And I want us to be good for each other. Please come to bed with me, Steven.
- [urgent tone:]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Please? I don't like to beg, but I'm begging you now. Please come to bed with me.
- [he hesitates]
- Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Please.
- [he puts an arm around her and they go off to the bedroom]
