Zsa Zsa Gabor received the Celebrity Roast treatment in this half hour quickie from Dean Martin's 1973/1974 Comedy Hour season. I believe these must have been a tune-up of sorts for the longer format shows where Dean brought out the really big guns of Hollywood like Sinatra, Carson and Lucille Ball. These shows had second tier entertainers, but they still did a pretty god job of humoring the guest on display and the crowd in attendance at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
On the dais for this show were Donald O'Connor, Corbett Monica, Donna Fargo, Lonny Schorr (anybody remember him?), and Buddy Hackett. Charles 'of Warsaw' Nelson Reilly got some laughs posing as Zsa Zsa's hairdresser, poking some fun at himself as well for going after the men she discarded along the way. Gossip columnist Sue Cameron also had a few barbs for the guest of honor, but as usual, it was Ruth Buzzi who got the most laughs as Zsa Zsa's fourth 'sister' - Gladys Ormphby Gabor - in the guise of her TV 'Laugh-In' character.
All the guests got in a few good shots at Zsa Zsa, making light of her money, husbands, and physical endowment. She appeared to be in pretty good humor for the most part, although there were a few times where she might have taken offense but allowed herself to be gracious. She got everyone back with a good line to close out the program - "Where would the world be without laughter? Tonight we found out"!
