Roasting an Odd Couple

Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, stars of THE ODD COUPLE, receive the roast treatment together, which would also be bestowed upon one other comedy team, Dan Rowan and Dick Martin (Klugman alone would have his own special in 1978, with Randall among the roasters). Legendary country singer Loretta Lynn admits that Klugman was her first steady boyfriend: "when Jack come a courtin' he looked prettier than a torn Hefty bag!" Soupy Sales discusses the numerous stars who showed up: "I'm the only one I here tonight never heard of!" Real life jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. Believes he knows which of the two is Klugman: "whenever he comes into the stable the horses open the windows!" Dean Martin's uncle Leonard Barr loves their series: "you guys are great, I watch your show every morning!" Bringing up the rear is Jack Carter, pointing out one of Tony Randall's mannerisms: "you ever notice he always looks like he's smelling something, and Klugman looks like what he's smelling!"
