In a world where religion has been outlawed, and The State actively hunts those that worship, an investigator is tasked with questioning school teacher Anton Helg, to discover the names of those that provided the service, refusal to answer means torture.
It's a great start, the opening five minutes or so were excellent, and put me in mind of George Orwell's 1984, an almost Dystopian future, imagine the thought of religious practice being illegal, no hope, no future, just a blind obedience to The State.
Unfortunately after that wonderful five minutes, it just faceplants, and instead of building on that premise, it turns into an overly sentimental, soppy drama.
I didn't like the character of Ilsa, she was a step to far, or rather her friendship with the interrogator was, and the change in Niven's character, again, I just found the 180 too hard to take in such a short space of time.
Niven was rather good, he looked so different here, less suave, a little more rugged, it made a change.
Interesting, but should have been so much better. I've added extra points for the terrific start.
6/10.
