The recently discovered 1969 episode of Dads Army "The Battle of Godfrey's Cottage" was not this episode as it is sometimes is mistaken to be.
The Colonel has come to see Mainwaring in the bank. He informs him that a new airfield is being built and Godfrey's cottage is right in the middle of it, so it has to come down. Mainwaring, Wilson and Pike go to Godfrey's cottage to see him and his sisters and try and break the news, but they can't. Mainwaring asks Jones to and he does, but the truth is Godfrey already knows. Dolly and Cissy are staying with friends and Jones said that Godfrey can stay with him. It's the day of Godfrey having to leave his cottage when Frazer turns up. He's managed to blackmail the man who is in charge of the airfield to move it a bit to the left. In a celebratory mood, everyone sits down and a plane rides past blowing everything everywhere.
It's a strange ending. Godfrey still stays in the cottage, so nobody knows how it was resolved. It was lovely in this episode when Jones insisted Godfrey stayed with him. The kindness of the characters in this series is wonderful.
Best Bit: MAINWARING: Godfrey's cottage is coming down and I've got to tell him, FRAZER: At his age, the shock might very well kill him. And you'd be responsible, do you hear what I say, you'd be responsible.
