Holly learns Slade is shot by a criminal, so she travels back to try to save him, breaking the rule she has paraded in front of him constantly; that time cannot be changed (which is what she even says at the beginning of this episode) Intriguing to watch how this all plays out, with Holly from the future going to Slade in the past. He realizes she is from the future when he sees the watch and then calls the lecture she is attending.
Like many stories dealing with preventing events by time travel, this one shows how many situations still take place regardless of trying to prevent them.
Holly pretty much drove Slade to his killer trying to steer him away from the guy.
In the end, it appears the murderer, Crowley, is the unfortunate soul in the whole predicament and should have post-humously been awarded a medal for helping to solve the murder of the artist.
