Cheyenne is hired to transport some sewing machines into Mexico in 1867 during the rebellion against Maximilian. An agent from the U.S. government, Pat Brady, is riding with Cheyenne. The shipment is confiscated when it is discovered by some French soldiers that the cargo is really printing equipment. Brady is taken prisoner while the leader orders Cheyenne to be shot but Sergeant Pedro Castillo intentionally misses Cheyenne who is lying on the ground as the soldiers are run off by some Mexican rebels. Cheyenne meets up with their leader, an old acquaintance, Luis Cardenas. Cheyenne learns that the printing press is for Manuel Lagrone who is held prisoner by the French as well as Brady. Cheyenne convinces Luis to attack the town where they are held to free them but only Manuel is there. Manuel asks to talk to Cheyenne in private via Maria Rivera. Cheyenne must decide if his loyalties lie with the French or Luis, who is under suspicion by the rebel leader Manuel.
