Fans of 1970s TV should be able to figure out very quickly who the baddies are in this one!!

I love 1970s police and detective shows. However, one shortcoming they have is that sometimes you see the same actors playing baddies again and again...to the point where you automatically assume they are the villains when you see them! In the case of "Triangle of Terror", you see both Don Knight AND Lloyd Bochner and assume they are evil...so it's a case of two for the price of one!

This show is a major change of pace as Cannon is hired to go to a Caribbean island and help solve a case. A seemingly rich and well respected member of the community appears to have killed himself after embezzling some money. But why would he need the money OR kill himself?! This doesn't make any sense and the trail leads to some lost Cuban gold, tales of the Bermuda Triangle and greed.

I love the change of pace and seeing Cannon hanging out in paradise is quite nice. Well worth seeing.

STYLISH WHODUNIT FOR CANNON.

This was perhaps the most classy and scenic episode from SEASON 3. Long time series director George McCowan (who directed 23 episodes) and writer Carey Wilbur were faithfully on board.

10 Stars.

The scenery from start to finish is ABSOLUTELY beautiful, supposedly the West indies, though partly filmed on Catalina island. Watch the opening scene as Cannon ascends all those steps to get to the main house, but its worth the trip for the spectacular mountaintop view.

Dana Wynter (in her second series appearance) plays a wealthy woman whose distinguished father --at first-- is believed to have shot himself in his bedroom. One question. How did the killer get the body in the bedroom with maid downstairs? Poetic license strikes again, but this is a TOP 10 episode.

Wynter was quite popular on tv at the time, recently appearing on MCMILLAN AND WIFE, and worked very well with William Conrad. You can tell they were old friends and enjoyed each others company.

Lloyd Bochner co-stars (that mysterious voice), another member of the distinguished villains club. All us kids loved this guy. Veteran actress Maidie Norman plays Mama Sally. She guested on MANNIX, IRONSIDE AND ADAM 12, just to name a few cop shows. Best remembered as the maid (who tells Bette Davis off) in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?

A TV FIRST... Did she offer a joint to Cannon? Who turns her down. Watch this scene. The crew had to have been cracking up.

Thalmus Rasulala plays the probing police chief (best known for The Autobiography of Jane Pittman and BLACKULA.) ... Last but not least... Director and veteran actor Robert Douglas appears in a bit role as Sir Arnold, the victim. Douglas also directed episodes for the series, and why didn't he direct this one? He probably just wanted to do the acting and hang with the crew. Do you blame him?

This must have been a fun episode to make. It's about 25 miles from Long Beach to Catalina, and a super trip if you ever choose to visit. The guest boats will dock you at Avalon and the island is so incredible, you will not want to go home.

Highly recommended. SEASON 3 EPISODE 24 remastered color CBS dvd box set. 2012.
