MR. DRYSDALE, THE ULTIMATE CON!
This episode is outrageous! I grew up watching this kooky show, and now as an adult it's just as kookie --but with some observations! Let's face it, we have all known at one time or another a Mr. Drysdale, the offbeat conman who will do anything to get "the deal'! Insane, but true. Raymond Bailey was sooo good in this role. He was a popular actor, a favorite of Alfred Hitchcock on his tv show in the 1950s, usually playing straight-lace doctors or businessmen. He also turned up in some campy sci-fi films, again as a doctor; THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, a prime example. Here, Mr. Drysdale attempts an outrageous publicity stunt, replete with little green men who come from another plant and demand to meet the leader of the banking community --HIM! Applause for famous midget actor Billy Barty as one of the bickering martians, who is onto his scheme. We also get to know a bit more about reserved Jane Hathaway, his secretary. It seems she did something "censured" during New Years Eve, which Drysdale will expose if she doesn't go along with the scheme. Funny stuff, but Granny steals the show walking around the mansion on stilts! A gotsa see classic episode from the iconic series that never seemed to end. SEASON 5 EPISODE 16. MERRY CHRISTMAS, 1966!
