Election day 1976

"The Election" was broadcast Oct 21 1976, still weeks away from the Nov Presidential election, but is set on that very day, Yemana betting that Hawaii goes Republican (he can't seem to find a winning bet anywhere). Wojo has already cast his vote (Barney hasn't), and pesters everybody to learn who they voted for. Harris brings in shoplifter Crippen (Gilbert Green, STAR TREK's "Patterns of Force"), who is guilty of stealing ladies' lingerie, none of which can possibly fit (Dietrich seems to believe he would know Shirley Feldman, who actually DOES wear such things). When Wojo courteously escorts him out to vote, he gives the prisoner so much time in the booth he makes his escape. Yemana issues a call to Barney: "a guy on West 10th says he got hit in the head by a toilet seat!" Dietrich casually asks if there were any survivors (Barney: "fortunately, it was unoccupied at the time!" Dietrich: "it would be embarrassing if the fall didn't kill you!"). Brett Somers (second of two) reports that her husband (Richard Venture) locked her in the bathroom, determined to prevent her from voting. Inspector Luger pops in to support a scandal-ridden candidate for City Council (previously with the sanitation department) who promised to make him Police Commissioner. Barney wants to know if Nick's coffee is fresh: "the grounds are, I can't vouch for the water!" (Barney: "well, what could live in YOUR coffee?").
